Cyber Security

Although the use of behaviour change support systems (BCSS) have been successful especially in developed countries, its application in developing countries is minimal. This is probably because most persuasive systems or technologies are deployed on smart and mobile devices that are relative expensive to the average person in a developing country. Consequently, BCSS have not been largely adopted. However, developing countries are faced with a number of social, environmental and health issues that can be addressed using BCSS. This therefore calls for a different approach to BCSS applications for developing countries. With this backdrop, we propose Persuasive Spaces. Persuasive spaces are spaces that can autonomously sense the behaviour of a user and craft persuasive messages that will alter a user’s cognition to perform a predetermined behaviour within a defined boundary. Since the occupants in such areas will encounter the persuasive activity without any cost, it is envisaged to be effective and also be capable of targeting larger users at relatively low cost. Currently, we have successfully developed a prototype of a persuasive road marking (intelligent road marking systems, IRMS), that has demonstrated a potential for altering drivers speed behaviour.
